Still Life Daily Painting, Wine Bottles

One of my favorite times of the day is late evening when I can grab that book or turn on the television to my favorite show and relax with a nice glass of wine.

I set some bottles up in the window sill to get the back lighting, and also got a nice reflection under one of the bottles.  When I started digging through my canvases, I found a 6x12" which was perfect for the composition.

The perfect kitchen decor!

Small Landscape Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, "Entering Light" by Carol Schiff, 6x8" Oil

I enjoyed the small landscape painting, of my morning walk, that I posted a few weeks ago.  I decided to do another similar piece.  I hope you like it.

I enjoy the solitude of getting my morning exercise on this road, with nothing to keep me company except the birds and wildflowers and the beautiful canopy of trees.  When I return home from my walk, I feel ready to attack the day ahead.

Thank you for reading my blog today.

Still life Bottle , Palette Knife Art, "Vintage Bottle" by Carol Schiff, 6x8" Oil Still Life

I have become slightly obsessed with vintage bottles, well, maybe a little more than slightly.  I love the idea of these bottles, most of them reclaimed from the earth, crusty and sometimes pearlized.  I like to think about how they were used when they were new.....and if they have a crystal cross on top (called a cross bottle) all the better!

This one, obviously does not have a cross on the top.  It does have any absolutely gorgeous color, kind of a cobalt violet.  I am told the it started out as clear glass, but due to magnesium in the glass, has aged into a beautiful hue.

The other thing I love, is painting with wild abandon with loads of thick, creamy, oil paint and a combination of palette knife and brush.  So yes, this little painting hits my buttons on several levels.

Some days, I just go through the motions, and the resulting painting usually shows it,  but this one was pure joy!  I would love for you to pin it!

Green Swamp, 6x8 Oil Painting on Canvas by Carmen Beecher

Kathy and I hiked down the Swamp Trail at Silver Springs State Park and crossed a boardwalk through this dramatic-looking cypress swamp. It was a rainy day, but the sun made a brief appearance, causing this dappled light on the green stuff floating on top of the water. One expects a dinosaur to rise out of the murk at any moment.

Painting on Sale, Daily Painting, "Fruit Salad" by Carol Schiff, 10x8" Oil

This week, my painting on sale is a nice little still life.  Various fruits in the foreground, against a background of palm shadows.  I like to think the earth tilts once a year, just for me, so that the setting sun shines in my window, just so, spraying my wall with gorgeous palm shadows.

Silver River, 10x8 Oil Painting by Carmen Beecher

After getting lost in the woods (perversely, I enjoy those kinds of adventures), Kathy and I finally found this beautiful scene. This river and Silver Springs State Park should be on any nature lover's bucket list. We passed through a gorgeous green swamp (on a boardwalk, of course) to get to the river. I was glad we were alone so I could ooh and ahh as loudly as I wished. Thank goodness Kathy had scoped it all out so we didn't miss this lovely sight.

Artist's Retreat at Silver Springs

Six of us went to Silver Springs this week and hiked and painted and ate. That's how it works. Above are, from left, Kathy, Denette, Fay, Cindy, and Mary. We had two cabins, air-conditioned and comfortable, but we spent most of our time on the porch. Below is a photo that is so unbelievable that I don't know if I will paint it or not. It just doesn't look real. I didn't adjust the colors. It really looks like this.

Silver Springs was a big Florida attraction in the 50s and 60s, but fell in popularity and quality after Disney came to Orlando. A lot of people don't realize that it is now owned by the state and is a wonderful state park. The accommodations are great, and you can hike, kayak, and ride the glass bottom boats. There is a water park for the kids.

This is on the Swamp Trail, which ends at the Silver River. I will soon be posting a painting I did of the view of the river.

Figurative Art | Daily Painting | Small Oil Painting | Boy Fishing Painting | Taking a Break by Carol Schiff | 8x10x.75" Original

In this daily painting, I was at the end of Cocoa Beach pier on a hot August day.  This small boy had put his rod and reel aside and was staring intently into the water.  Had he found some fish?  a surfer?  Maybe he was contemplating how cool and refreshing to water would feel.

Whatever he was thinking, I hope he remembers this day forever.  When he could just do what boys do.....a modern day Huck Finn.  He reminds me of my son at that age.

This boy is all grown up now.....and so is my son, who has a son of his own that likes to dream of fishing on a hot summer day.

Small Figurative Painting | Daily Painting | Small Oil Painting | Guitar Practice by Carol Schiff | 6x8" Original

This small figurative painting depicts my granddaughter practicing her guitar.  I liked the intensity in her face  as she struggled to get the correct chords.

She is all grown up now, attending college and applying the same intensity to her studies.  I will always remember her as this 13 year old girl, sitting on the edge of the bed, making music.

Rural Landscape Painting | Daily Painting | Small Oil Painting | Country Road by Carol Schiff | 6x8" Original

Country Road, take me home.....

I still miss John Denver!   This rural landscape painting reminds me of his talent and the beautiful songs he left with us.

purchase here

I walk this road every morning when I am in the Smoky Mts. of Carolina.  The morning light and pastoral scenes are the perfect way to start my days there.

I painted with a palette knife, in a technique I refer to as "color weaving".  It allows for lots of texture in the work as well as very subtle changes in color. This is actually the same scene I painted in my previous post, but the finished effect is completely different.  That's one of the things I love about art!

Thank you for reading my blog today.

Reflections of Venice, 14x11, Oil on Canvas by Carmen Beecher

I am reflecting on one of my best trips ever, to Venice with my sister. We had such a good time, and the beauty of the place was overwhelming. We also managed to experience Rome and Paris during that trip, and I am eternally grateful to my sis for the fantastic time we had. We were in the Sistine Chapel before anyone else got there! She has the World's Greatest Travel Agent, and we always have wonderful adventures together.

I had not painted outside in two years, so this was quite a challenge. It was one of those paintings I had to improve upon in the studio. ...
